Unfortunately, I belong to the group of people for whom cilantro tastes like soap, so here’s a version without the typical herb for a guacamole. But even without cilantro, my guacamole tastes great. It is hard to imagine Mexican cuisine without the tasty avocado dip. And guacamole was already prepared by the Aztecs about 500 years ago and is named after the Nahuatl word “ahuacamolli”, which translates as avocado sauce. With the arrival of the Spanish in Central America, the recipe for guacamole was adopted and is still one of the traditional dishes in Mexico. The main ingredient of guacamole is the avocado, which from a botanical point of view is a berry and therefore belongs to the group of fruits. The avocado grows on trees and has its origin in the tropical rainforest areas of Mexico and Central America. Nowadays, the avocado has been cultivated in many countries and is grown in countries such as Chile, Africa, California, Australia, New Zealand, Peru and Spain. What ingredients do I need for a guacamole? You need 2 avocados, about 17.5 oz / 500 g, unpeeled: make sure the avocado is well ripe. You can check whether it is ripe or not by gently pressing the fruit with your thumb. The flesh should be slightly soft, but no pressure marks should remain. If this is the case, then the avocado is too ripe and should not be used. 1 tomato, about 4.5 oz / 125 g 1 red onion, about 3 oz / 80 g 1 chili: traditionally a jalapeño. Cut the chili pepper in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Halve the two parts of the chili again and dice finely.
